Note: This item was originally posted 2/19/14 and, thanks to information received from S. L. Foster, was revised 2/23/14. My error was the father of Mary Magdalene Rogers. I originally used "Lon" and that was incorrect. There were twin brothers, "Lon" and "Fon" Rogers, and therein lies much confusion for researchers. Their given names were Alonzo and Alfonzo, so someone had a sense of humor. You will see an item about Lon Rogers and his passport application posted several items below. The following is corrected:

Miss Mary Magdalene Rogers, daughter of Alfonzo "Fon" Rogers and Ida Boyd Brown, was born at Hartford on 4 March 1901. She lived in Lexington with her family at the time of her application. She planned to travel to the British Isles, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, and France. Magdalene attended the University of Kentucky. She married Donald Phillips Lane and they had two daughters, Fonita Rogers Lane and Donna Patricia Lane; the Lane family lived in Long Beach, California where Mr. Lane was an attorney. Magdalene died 3 May 1982 in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky and is buried in Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Kentucky.

  1. This branch of my family tree has always confused me. I'm pretty sure that this application belongs to Magdalene Rogers, who lived with my great aunt (Ida Boyd Brown Rogers) in a grand old home in downtown Lexington. I noticed you made the same error as this researcher; "Fon Rogers 6 Jul 1872-14 March 1948, married Ida Boyd Brown 18 Feb 1876-1
Jun 1976, dau of Samuel Thomas Brown.....Lon had at least 4 children:"
Fon's 4 children included Magdelene, Lon B., Lottie Mae and Ida Brown Rogers. You can see the source of confusion. I may be confused still, but pretty sure my "Aunt B" was married to Alfonso (Fon) Rogers and that he was the father of Magdelene. It is interesting that she applied for her passport the year following Lon and Jessie's application, and listed the same countries.
